Learning Journey 10th June 2019

Topic/Art week – This week will be art week for the children. The children will be learning about the artist Andy Warhol. They will be doing an artist study and will create an artist study page which includes key facts about the artist. They will have an opportunity at examining some of his famous pieces of work where they will discuss colour, contrast and mood. The children will learn the skill of using different colours for contrast and then will have an opportunity to explore and use different colours. They will then create an image in the likeness of Andy Warhol.

Maths – This week we will continue our exploration of measurement with mass. We will be comparing weight, adding and subtracting mass, converting between  g and kg and solving word problems involving mass.

PSHE– The children will learn that babies grow and develop in the mother’s uterus and they will discuss what a baby needs to live and grow.

RE – The children will learn about faith and Jesus’ teachings on it.

Indoor PE – The children will learn about dance and will create a water dance. The first lesson will focus on moving in unison.

PE –Cricket – The children will learn how to throw and catch an underarm pass.

Learning Journey 4th June 2019

Topic – The children will be learning about Groovy Greeks as their new topic. For their hook day they will have the opportunity to do Greek based arts and crafts. They will also locate Ancient Greek civilisation on a timeline and will show where Greece is and how it fits into the wider world. Children will research the four major states of Ancient Greece and then describe them.

Maths – Children will add and subtract volume and capacity and practise solving word problems before moving onto mass.

PSHE – The children will learn that humans and animals go through lots of change as they grow older.

RE – The children will be learning about faith. They will write a poem and answer questions on faith.

Indoor PE – The children will learn about dance and will create a water dance. The first esson will focus on moving in unison.

Outdoor PE – The children will learn about and practise their cricket skills.

Learning Journey 20th May, 2019

Maths – The children will be investigating volume and capacity this week. We will be exploring, measuring and problem solving

Topic – The children will be investigating different materials such as bubble wrap, tin foil, sandpaper to test which materials create more or less friction.

The children will also evaluate puppets, plan their own puppets and then will create the puppets using blanket stitch and two pieces of fabric.

PSHE- The children will learn about how their needs and rights are shared with children across the world and how other children’s lives might be different.

RE – The children will be learning about the Lord’s prayer and then will create a poster about what the Lord’s Kingdom might look like.

Indoor PEGymnastics– The children will learn to land a roll in a variety of different shapes and to create a sequence.

Outdoor PEAthletics – The children will learn to link three phases of a jump such as the approach, take off and landing.

Learning Journey 13th May 2019

  • Maths- This week we will be exploring measurement. We will investigate how to measure compare and convert between different units of measurement for length.
  • Topic – This week we will be identifying where non-renewable sources of energy are found in the world and investigate the effects of global warming before writing a persuasive letter to Ms Bretherick using our new knowledge.
  • SPaG – This week we will be working on inverted commas and how to apply this to our writing
  • RE – We will continue our focus on Christianity
  • PSHE – We will be looking at
    how some of the actions and work of people around the world help and influence our lives.
  • PE Gymnastics – This week we will learning how to perform a backwards roll correctly
  • PE Athletics– This week we will learning how to safely take off and land jumps with correct technique

Learning Journey 7th May 2019

Maths – This week we continue our exploration of 2D and 3D shapes. We will investigate the various properties of shapes and apply our knowledge of lines and angles to describe various shapes.

Topic – The children will write their own stories based on the book Michael Recycle meets Litterbug Doug. They will also create fact files on different renewable and non-renewable energy sources where they will be able to explain what an energy source is and they will be able to identify the different energy sources.

PSHE: the children will learn strategies to keep themselves safe.

RE: the children will be continuing to learn about Christianity.

PE: the children will be learning how to take off and land jumps with power and control. They will also be performing a backward roll.

Next Week’s Learning


Topic: Next week we will start writing up our newspaper reports based on earthquakes in San Francisco. We have planned the headlines and columns – now we are eager to get writing!

We will also be starting to look at how the Earth is formed and will be categorising rocks – we will become rock detectives!

Maths: In Maths next week, we are continuing our work on multiplication using the column method – both classes have found this tricky so please help us by regularly practicing times tables at home!

PE:  Outdoor Games – we will be continuing our basketball skills – learning to control the ball! Don’t forget we need trainers and joggers for outside PE on a Friday – it’s getting colder!

PE: Indoor Gymnastics – this half term we will be looking at gymnastics in PE on a Monday. We will be looking at shapes of movements this week.

PSHE: We will be looking at planning a dream garden this week.

Computing: We will be continuing with our e-safety mini topic and we hope to get to use the Chromebooks for the first time!

Literacy skills:  We are learning to retrieve information from non-fiction texts; the texts we will be looking at are earthquakes – all linking to our topic of Extreme Earth! We will also be looking at using inverted commas in sentences.
